Member Spotlight: How Growbooks Helps Small Businesses Keep Money in their Pockets

When Zandria Eriksson, Founder of Growbooks Bookkeeping, first got started in the accounting industry, she identified an opportunity to support small business owners in a deeper way.

“I started working in accounting in 2012 working in various industries while I pursued my accounting degree,” explains Zandria. “Then, in 2016 I started to focus more on helping small businesses in the fitness industry where I really saw the need that business owners had for a solid financial partner.”

But there was a problem: Zandria realized that many small business owners either didn’t have a financial partner or weren’t receiving the treatment they deserved from the ones they were working with.

She elaborates, “When small business owners would reach out to me, they would express how lost they felt on their financial side. They either didn’t have an accounting professional at all or they did, but it was like pulling teeth just to get them to respond to their emails. This is when I knew I wanted to use everything I had learned to transform the way people felt about their accountants and the financial aspects of their businesses. I wanted the entrepreneur who started their business because they had a passion for pottery, or dog grooming, or coding to be able to focus on that and not be bogged down by trying to figure out their numbers.”

Building an Accounting Firm to Better Serve Small Business Owners

Armed with her newfound passion for making the accounting experience better for small business owners, Zandria launched Growbooks Bookkeeping.

“I finally decided to start my business when a marketing company reached out to me,” says Zandria. “My employer at the time actually referred me to them. I was fortunate enough to have a boss who knew my ultimate goal was to start my own firm and she supported me in that.”

She continues, “The marketing company had hired several different firms to clean up their books. Each time, after a couple of weeks, the firms would come back to them unable to complete the project. Of course, this led to a distrust that the company felt towards accountants. I knew at that moment that I never wanted someone to feel that way about my firm.”

This philosophy was the key pillar that her business was founded on.

Supporting Clients Across a Diverse Array of Industries

Today, Growbooks Bookkeeping works with a wide array of clients from across the country to help provide them with more freedom and to keep more money in their pockets.

Zandria elaborates, “I tend to work a lot with tech companies in California and New York that focus on the SaaS (software as a service) business model. However, I have clients in the roofing, grooming, marketing, hotel, manufacturing, and oil industries. My goal is to help any business that needs it.”

And it’s something that’s been extremely rewarding for her–especially when tax season rolls around.

“A lot of business owners stress out about being prepared for tax season,” says Zandria. “I think it weighs heavily on a lot of business owners’ minds, whether they’re aware of it or not. It’s so rewarding to know the relief that clients feel when they don’t have to worry about it anymore.”

Finding a Home in Tucson for Her Business

When it was time for her to return to Tucson, Zandria knew it was time to find a long-term home for Growbooks Bookkeeping.

“I found out about The Post a few months before I moved back to Tucson,” Zandria explains. “I had reached out a month before the pandemic hit. Then, when I moved back, I found out that the membership option I was hoping to purchase was no longer available due to social distancing.”

She adds, “I kept bothering Dan and Chelle about when it was going to be available again. They were kind enough to come up with a new membership option that could accommodate me and other businesses that were looking for a part-time office. I loved the space and community they created so much that shortly after I decided to get a private office.”

Being at The Post has helped Zandria to make the most out of her workdays.

“I’m able to focus much better in my own dedicated space than I would have been able to

at home,” Zandria shares. “My brain is just wired to know that when we arrive at The Post, it’s time to go into work mode. I’m way more productive here.”
