March is underway, and do you know what means? Winter will be over before the month is finished!

And to celebrate, we’ve compiled a list of nine amazing things to do in the Tucson and Oro Valley areas this month.

1. The Tucson Festival of Books (Virtual Edition) 

Date and Time: Saturday and Sunday, March 6 and 7

Location: Virtual (click here to register for any of the virtual events)

Cost: Free

What’s going on: This year, the Tucson Festival of Books has gone virtual. The festival is broken down this year into a few pieces — a Friday night kickoff event, nearly 100 presentations, an independent authors pavilion, and an exhibitor marketplace.

2. Online Culinary Class with Wendy Garcia of Tumerico 

Date and Time: Monday, March 15, at 5:30 p.m.

Location: Online

Cost: $25

What’s going on: Learn how to prepare jackfruit as a meat alternative for tacos and carnitas with Chef Wendy Garcia. During this Zoom culinary class, you will get a 30-minute tutorial filmed at Feast Restaurant and a 20-minute live Q&A with the chefs. All registrants will have access to downloadable recipe cards and a YouTube link where you can watch and re-watch the recorded cooking class at your own pace.

3. Humane Amigos Spring Break Camp

Date and Time: Monday, March 15, to Thursday, March 18, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Location: The Education Center of the Humane Society Southern Arizona, located at 635 West Roger Road, just West of Oracle Road.

Cost: $250 (click here to register)

What’s going on: Kids and pets get together during Humane Amigos Camps with the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. Campers spend a minimum of two hours caring daily for different camp foster animals. These animals may include ball pythons, rabbits, rats, guinea pigs, cats, and dogs. Humane Amigos Camps provide children with an in-depth, hands-on education about animal care and the human-animal bond.

4. Carpool Movie: Jurassic World

Date and Time: Saturday, March 6, at 7:00 p.m.

Location: Cactus Drive-In Theatre, 4450 S. Houghton Road

Cost: $20 online, $25 at the gate, $5 headphone rental at the gate

What’s going on: Who doesn’t love dinosaurs? Grab some blankets and pop the trunk. Cactus Drive-In Theatre and Medella Vina Ranch will be showing “Jurassic World” on the big screen.

5. Sunday Sips and Whips at Foothills Mall

Date and Time: Sunday, March 7, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Location: Foothills Mall, 7401 N. La Cholla Blvd.

Cost: Free to attend but bring cash for purchases 

What’s going on: Stop by the mall for cars, music, coffee, bites, handmade crafts, and more!

6. Second Sunday Vintage Market

Date and Time: Sunday, March. 14, from 8:00 a.m until 2:00 p.m.

Location: 4500 N. Oracle Road

Cost: Free to attend but bring money for shopping 

What’s going on: Vintage lovers rejoice! If you’re looking to do some incredible shopping, stop by the Second Sunday Vintage Market and browse through 60 vendors for vintage, antique and collectible items at this northwest-side market.

7. Drake Bell Drive-In Concert at Park Mall 

Date and Time: Saturday, March 13, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Location: Park Place Mall, 5870 E. Broadway Blvd.

Cost: $55 per ticket (VIP tickets also available) 

What’s going on: Drive-in and see Nickelodeon celebrity Drake Bell and the band perform at Park Place Mall this month. Bell is performing with new artists such as Josh Dun, Mike Taylor, Lil Mama, and Tank God. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from Hollywood Hot dogs, Wild West Kettle Corn, Maui Wowi Tucson, and Sexy Grilled Cheese.

8. Take a Cave Tour at Colossal Cave

Date and Time: Daily on the hour, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Location: 16721 E. Old Spanish Trail

Cost: $20 for adults, $10 for kids

What’s going on: If you’re feeling adventurous, head out to Colossal Cave and go underground for a cave tour. This half-mile-long guided walk takes about 40 minutes to complete. It’s the perfect family-friendly introduction to the Cave. You’ll learn about the Cave’s history, its legends (like train robbers and ghosts), and its unique geology. As you descend approximately six stories deep (363 stair steps) you’ll see some amazing cave formations including stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, box work, and helictites that were sculpted by millions of years of geological activity. And keep an eye out for the wildlife too!

Note: Children under 4 years of age aren’t permitted on the tours.

9. Brunch at the Plaza

Date and Time: Every Saturday in March from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Location: St. Philips Plaza, 4280 N. Campbell Ave.

Cost: Free to attend; food and drinks are available for purchase at Reforma Moderna Mexican.

What’s going on: Drive over to the Plaza and watch live DJs at St. Philip’s Plaza every Saturday. Big Brother Beats and DJ Jason will be bumping beats and playing their latest music mixes.
