This month marks the official start of summer. And, as hotter weather arrives, it brings with it a ton of fun things to do in Tucson.
So, whether you’re looking for a family-friendly event, a relaxing movie nights beneath the stars, or a night out, there’s something going on that everyone will love.
Here’s a roundup of 11 awesome things to do in June.
1. Summer Safari Nights at Reid Park Zoo
Date and Time: Saturday, June 4, 11, and 25 from 5:30-8:50 p.m.
Location: Reid Park Zoo, 2400 E Zoo Court, Tucson.
Cost: $6.50 for children ages 2-14; $10.50 for adults.
What’s going on: See the best of what the Zoo has to offer—cooler evenings, beautiful sunsets, and themed activities with animal encounters, keeper chats, and live music. Each week is a new theme, so come back a few times over the summer to see something new!
2. Open Mic Night
Date and Time: Sunday, June 5 from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Location: Hotel McCoy Tucson, 720 West Silverlake Road.
Cost: Free to attend; bring money for drinks or food.
What’s going on: Bring out your inner performer and belt one out at open mic night! Or, just go for the fun environment, laughs, and good times.
3. Once Upon A Time In Tombstone Screening
Date and Time: Tuesday, June 7 at 6:00 p.m.
Location: The Screening Room, 127 East Congress Street.
Cost: $5.00
What’s going on: Once Upon A Time In Tombstone is a film shot with a local cast and crew, entirely in southern Arizona! Join the cast for this exciting screening, followed by a Q&A after the film.
4. Bellas Tradiciones
Date and Time: Saturday, June 11 at 3:00 p.m.
Location: Catalina High Magnet School, 3645 East Pima Street.
Cost: $20.00
What’s going on: Join the Compañía de Danza Folklórica Arizona for a fun, festive afternoon celebrating Mexican culture through dance.
5. Black Joy: Juneteenth Market
Date and Time: Friday, June 17 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Location: Downtown Clifton Hotel, 485 South Stone Avenue.
Cost: Free; bring money to shop.
What’s going on: Come out and support Arizona’s best Black-owned vendors. There’ll be food and drink from the Red Light Lounge to enjoy while checking out the vendors and making purchases in support of Juneteenth 2022.
6. Midsummer Fairy Lights
Date and Time: Friday and Saturday, June 17 and 18 at 7:00 p.m.
Location: Valley of the Moon, 2544 East Allen Road.
Cost: $7.00 for non-members. Nurses and teachers receive a 20% discount.
What’s going on: Experience the magic of the summer solstice! Wander the paths of Valley of the Moon, decorated in enchanting lights. The event includes music, storytelling, and perhaps a few mystical creatures wandering around.
7. AC Hotel: Poolside Lounge Parties
Date and Time: Saturday, June 18 from 2:00-6:00 p.m.
Location: AC Hotel by Marriot, 151 East Broadway Boulevard.
Cost: $25.00
What’s going on: Kick off the summer with a fun pool party at the awesome rooftop pool at the AC Hotel by Marriott. There’ll be food, ice cream, and DJ Walters the Don to keep things going!
8. Movies on the Lawn
Date and Time: Saturday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m. (starts after sundown).
Location: Oro Valley Community & Recreation Center, 10555 N La Canada Drive.
Cost: Free.
What’s going on: Bring a blanket and some chairs and enjoy a movie out under the stars. Movies are playing throughout the summer and June’s film is the instant family classic, Encanto.
9. Round Up at the Ranch 5K
Date and Time: Sunday, June 19 at 6:00 a.m.
Location: Steam Pump Ranch, 10901 N. Oracle Road.
Cost: $25 prior to race day; $30 on race day.
What’s going on: Run, walk, or bring the kids in a stroller to complete the 7th-annual 5K at Steam Pump Ranch. All proceeds from the event go to the Town’s Round Up For Youth Recreation Scholarship Program. Participants will receive a t-shirt and can enjoy snacks, water, and watermelon to stay cool.
10. A Night in New Orleans with Mr. Boogie Woogie
Date and Time: Friday, June 24 at 7:00 p.m.
Location: The Century Room, 311 E Congress Street.
Cost: $15.00 in advance; $18.00 day-of; $20.00 dinner and show tickets.
What’s going on: Come on out and enjoy the sounds of New Orleans… right here in Tucson! This quartet of a saxophonist, pianist, bassist, and drummer will keep you moving all night long. Book your dinner ticket for a 5:00 p.m. reservation before the show.
11. Classic Rock Extravaganza
Date and Time: Saturday, June 25 at 7:00 p.m.
Location: Encoretucson, 5851 E Speedway Boulevard.
Cost: General admission starts at $10.00
What’s going on: Sing your heart out at this throwback to classic rock! Tribute bands will play famous songs from Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Black Crowes, and Rush.
