Tucson Saturdays: Our Favorite Ways to Spend a Day Off in the City

At The Post, we focus a whole ton of our energy on what happens during the workday. After all, we’re a hub where people come to get amazing work done.

But, as we often have to remind ourselves as entrepreneurs, there’s a world outside of the workday as well.

So, I thought I’d take a minute to pay tribute to those off-days and share a few ways that Dan and I like to spend a Saturday in Tucson.

Getting Out When the Weather’s Best

One of the things I absolutely love about Tucson is the weather from the end of August until around March, but I especially like it in early September.

As you know, it can be on the warm side during the day, but the evenings are perfect in the mid-70’s. The monsoon rains have slowed down and the nights become beautiful.

So, I never miss a chance to get out and enjoy the outdoors when it’s like that.

Going for an Early Morning Hike

Even after living in Tucson for the last 30 years, every once and a while I like to take a weekend and just enjoy our Sonoran desert surroundings.

On a Saturday morning, I’ll get up around 5:30 a.m. and head over to the base of Sabino Canyon Recreation Park. It’s the go-to recreation area for both tourists and locals alike.

Hiking there is awesome in the early mornings as the sun rises across the Catalina Foothills.

Riding Electric Bikes at THE LOOP

Dan and I love taking our electric bikes down to THE LOOP. For those who aren’t familiar, THE LOOP is a 136-mile path that circles the city and links the local surrounding cities of Marana, Oro Valley, and South Tucson.

It also connects Rillito River Park, Santa Cruz River Park, and Pantano River Park with Julian Wash and the Harrison Greenway.

Residents and visitors alike are welcome to walk, run, bike, skate and horseback ride their way around town.

Doing a Yoga Class

We’ll often follow our electric bike rides with a stop at La Paloma Country Club to take a relaxing yoga class.

Yoga is my absolute favorite physical activity. I find it lets me release an incredible amount of physical stress, which is something I’m sure is important for many of us, especially after such a crazy year.

Heading to the Pool and Having Lunch

Shortly after yoga, we head to the club pool and order a healthy light lunch while catching some sun rays in the gorgeous September mid-day weather.

Finishing the Day Strong!

From the pool, we love to go home and take a short nap. Then, around dinner time, I love to meet up with my three sons for our favorite meal: amazing sushi over at Mr. Ahns Teppan and Sushi.

It’s incredibly important to work hard, but you also need to enjoy your days off, as well. Whether you jam-pack your off-days with activity or spend them relaxing and recharging your batteries, you need to do something for yourself.

What are your favorite Saturday activities? We’d love to hear your recommendations!
