13 of The Funniest Zoom Fails Ever

Chelle Peterson

Everyone remembers the lawyer who couldn’t get rid of his cat filter during a Zoom court hearing, right?

(If you don’t, check it out here).

Collectively, we’ve gotten better at using Zoom and other online platforms to work remotely, but there’s still plenty of room for error. It’s just one reason why we’re such big fans of meeting in person—less technical difficulties and more collaboration.

But it doesn’t mean we can’t have a chuckle at some of the biggest mishaps out there—here are 13 more Zoom fails to brighten your day.

1. Sing-a-long Zoom Fail

Sure, you might be in front of a computer screen, but it doesn’t mean no one can hear you! Just take a lesson from this student and keep your singing to a minimum.

2. Potato Head Zoom Fail

Having fun with filters is undoubtedly one of the best parts of communicating on Zoom. But what happens when you can’t turn it off? Well, you turn into a potato head for the duration of your team meeting.

3. Not-so-secret Zoom Fail

Again, the filters and features of Zoom are fun… just make sure you’re the only one who can see them!

4. AirPods Zoom Fail

Yep, AirPods pick up sound. This mom found out the hard way when she was commenting on her 7-year-old’s class Zoom call—all without realizing everyone could hear what she was saying the whole time.

5. Bathroom Zoom Fail

You don’t even know where to look on this one—at the person taking a bathroom break while on Zoom or their colleagues’ horrified reactions!

6. The Camera’s On Zoom Fail

It’s always a good idea to double—no triple!—check that your camera is truly off when you want it to be. Otherwise, you’re gearing up for an awkward conversation later on…

7. Communication Zoom Fail

We can’t necessarily blame this one on Zoom—it’s much more of a classic communication breakdown. This clip of a town council meeting went viral as it descended into chaos with councilors trading insults and getting booted off the Zoom call. Skip ahead to 00:58 for the good bit.

8. No Pants Zoom Fail

If we learned anything from Zoom over the last few years, it’s to always wear pants. And this applies to you and everyone in your household… otherwise, you’ll end up like this poor woman.

9. For Goodness Sake, Wear Your Pants! Zoom Fail

You think people would learn by now—wear your pants! This team meeting ended a bit awkwardly, to say the least.

10. Pet Zoom Fail

One of the best perks of working from home is having your pets around! But they can also wreak havoc on your meetings if not kept in check—”Rocco, put your tail down.”

11. Not-so-meditative Zoom Fail

Just like your pets, kids at home sometimes cause a few distractions while you’re trying to do your work. Just try leading a meditation session with your daughter giving you the bunny ears in the background!

12. Virtual Background Zoom Fail

Those virtual backgrounds simply aren’t foolproof, as one Ohio senator found out. He joined a Zoom meeting while driving in his car, attempting to pass it off as his office with a fake background.

13. Kids Interrupting Zoom Fail

Even long before the pandemic (from when this video was captured), kids have been lovingly interrupting us at work. But, the news must go on!

Bonus: Some Cute Kids on Zoom

Not a “fail,” but just some hilarious 2nd graders trying to behave after their teacher dropped off the Zoom call. “We should behave,” “I’m eating gummies,” and “we’ll be toast” are just a few of the most quotable moments.

There’s no doubt that Zoom has added a little more hilarity into our lives with funny fails like these.

But if you’re looking for a more streamlined approach to team meetings, consider how you can prioritize in-person collaboration. Bookable meeting rooms or opting for private offices in a coworking space are both ways to bring your team together for strong and fail-free interpersonal communication.
