With 2021 in full swing, there are some great things to do in the Tucson and Oro Valley areas in February.

1. Live Music & Mixology Nights

Date and Time: Thursdays in February from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m

Location: The Tuxon Hotel, 960 S Freeway, Tucson

Cost: $25 (purchase tickets online in advance)

What’s going on: If you’re looking for a great night out, check out Live Music & Mixology Nights at The Tuxon Hotel. Enjoy live music from guitarist Troy Gray as Tuxon mixologist Rusell Garner creates three custom Bourbon-based cocktails. Make sure to bring a mask. Social distancing will be in effect. 

2. Cologuard Classic PGA Tour Champions in Tucson

Date and Time: February 21 – 28, 2021

Location: The Tuxon Hotel, 960 S Freeway, Tucson

Cost: Prices and packages vary; see online for details

What’s going on: Are you a golf lover? If so, this event is for you! Tucson’s PGA TOUR Champions Tour event will bring together legendary champions of men’s pro golf for three days of no-cut competition. Players will also be participating in pro-am events on Wednesday-Thursday on the famed Catalina Course, a popular PGA venue since the 1960s.

3. King Canyon Geology Hiking

Date and Time: Saturday, February 13, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. 

Location: Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum 

Cost: $30 for museum members and $33 for non-members; purchase tickets online (scroll down the page!)

What’s going on: The desert is cool, the sun is shining…it’s a wonderful time to take a hike in the Tucson Mountains! The King Canyon Geology Hike takes you on a walk through time, learning about the sedimentary basins of 100 million years ago, about the subsequent volcanic caldera, and the more recent stretching and cracking of the earth beneath us. You might even see a dike, a pseudomorph, a fault, a very young lava flow, and even younger Hohokam artifacts. Round trip distance is 2 miles and requires stepping over some small rock ledges.

4. Heirloom Farmers Market: Oro Valley

Date and Time: Saturdays in February from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. 

Location: 10901 N. Oracle Road, Tucson

Cost: Free to enter; bring cash for purchases 

What’s going on: Taking place in front of a picturesque backdrop for the southern Arizona regional farmers, ranchers, and artisan food producers who participate every week, the Heirloom Farmers Market brings in an average of over 30 vendor stalls and more than 700 customers. This open-air farmers’ market offers a diverse array of high-quality local farm products.

5. Tubac Center of the Arts Winter Exhibitions

Date and Time: Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Location: 10901 N. Oracle Road, Tucson

Cost: Free!

What’s going on: The Tubac Center of the Arts represents Tubac’s artistic heritage and identity. The new season includes a number of exhibitions, including:

  • Arizona Aqueous: “Arizona Aqueous” has been a tradition at TCA for 34 years. This national juried exhibit engages artists from across the country working in traditional and contemporary methods that incorporate water media on paper. 
  • For the Love of It: Tubac artist Marion Valentine was one of the early Tubac artists. Along with her husband Hans, their home was also their studio, open to the public. Marion was well known for her unique batik paintings. In this retrospective, we celebrate her love of art and community for her 120th birthday, February 14th, Valentine’s Day!
  • Harmston Arts – Seripraphs: Harmston Arts represents a partnership of 30 years of creativity. Steve and Bonnie Harmston work together with a focus that reflects each of their unique sensibilities. Steve has a BFA in Printmaking and Bonnie has a degree in Marketing. Together they collaborate on designs that reflect their experiences from travels throughout the wild and rural parts of the land. Their silkscreen prints are the expression of this imagery with simple, hand-cut shapes, overlaying a vibrant color palette of translucent and opaque colors.

6. Exploring High-Elevation Springs at Saguaro National Park

Date and Time: Thursday, February 11, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Location: Online via Zoom

Cost: Free with online registration 

What’s going on: Hosted by Don Swann and Dan Beckman from Saguaro National Park, this discussion will focus on efforts to learn more about high elevation springs: finding previously undocumented springs and rare plants, assessments, history, and where the water comes from. 

7. Classic Car Show at Little Anthony’s Diner

Date and Time: Saturday, February 6, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Location: 7010 E. Broadway Blvd

Cost: Free 

What’s going on: Are you an old-school automobile enthusiast? If so, you’ll love this! Join Little Anthony’s Diner for a classic car show with DJ John. Diner treats are available in the diner and at their outdoor grill. Face masks and social distancing are required at this event.

8. Dogs in the Drive-Thru at Chick-Fil-A

Date and Time: Monday, February 22, from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Location: 3943 W. Ina Road

Cost: Free 

What’s going on: One question for the dog owners out there. Are you ready to spoil your furry friend? Bring your pup through the Chick-fil-A drive-thru at Ina and Thornydale and receive a free treat. Southern Arizona Golden Retriever Rescue will be at the restaurant with their pup ambassadors from 11 to 2 p.m. and 5-7:30 p.m.

9. Take a Hike Up Tumamoc Hill

Date and Time: Whenever you want!

Location: Tumamoc Hill Rd.

Cost: Free 

What’s going on: Hike Tumamoc Hill for scenic views and nature pictures. Tumamoc has implemented safety measures to promote social distancing and prevent the spread of coronavirus, so please limit group sizes and remember to wear your mask.

10. Brunch at the Plaza

Date and Time: Every Saturday in February from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Location: St. Philips Plaza, 4280 N. Campbell Ave.

Cost: Free to attend; food and drinks are available for purchase at Reforma Moderna Mexican.

What’s going on: Drive over to the Plaza and watch live DJs at St. Philip’s Plaza every Saturday. Big Brother Beats and DJ Jason will be bumping beats and playing their latest music mixes.
